We have multiple countries so we have enabled the country field in OPC

Apart from the fact that we still do not understand why the standard Virtuemart structure is not followed here and, moreover, we do not see the point of a separate country field, we are now running into a major problem.

Scenario a: Customer does not choose a country first but logs in directly. No problem, customer fields remain intact.

Scenario b: Customer chooses country first to see shipping and payment methods and then logs in. Big problem because all customer fields are deleted!!!

We have been looking into this and if the form is filled as Guest and then the user login it makes sense to clear the fields. We think that you should probably guide your users to login earlier in the process. Have you looked into our extensions.joomlapro.com/product/jp-yootheme-login to offer a easy way for you users to login.

If you only offer them to login in the absolute end of the cart - there is a big risk they will do it to late and then the fields will get cleared if they got half way through.

Would also like to add that it would be very risky to save fields as guest directly in the account. For example if they change country just to check and then they login and we save the country change into their user/shipping/billing address.

I understand this! This is why you need to allow then to login early on! You could even open up a login form in a modal on either startpage or cart page. To "force" the login early on. If you enable loong time cookies you can also keep your customers logged in to your site for a very long time.

So in conclusion here, we do not think that filled inputs fields in forms in cart is strange that they get cleared after login. Its expected behavior.

This is not default behaviour!
All Virtuemart installations with or without OPC have a login option in the shopping cart!
And there is no way a user/web designer should have to go through all sorts of hoops to fix a bug in an extension.
If you need a country field for your customers, just create your own override.
An extension offered commercially should just function like Virtuemart's standard

I am not sure I follow what you mean here.

1. We do have a login in our cart. Did you miss this?

2. What bug are you saying here? That we clear the inputs on login?

3. The country field is in sync with VM - you an enable/disable any countries.

4. It is a One Page with focus on "Guest Cart". There are other options out there and you can disable the VMuikit One Page Checkout.

1. No I didn't miss the option. The characteristic of regular customers is that they do not have to enter all their data again. In your OPC, all data is deleted on login when selecting country field first.
2. Exact
3. The countryfield itself is in sync with VM, but the way it is implemented in your OPC is not!
4. I do not understand that you say about VMuikit One Page Checkout that it has focus on a guest acccount and thus is not really suitable for webshops with regular customers.

The focus on "guest checkout" is that we moved the "Country" selection earlier so that shipment/payment scripts can kick in and select the correct ones.

Any website I visit if I "partially fill out a form" then decides to login the "partial filled form" is forgotten. Its frustrating but it happens all the time.

Could you make a video of what your are meaning so we can get a detailed view of your issue and how its frustrating for your users.

What I have said here since the start is that you should "invite" your users to login early on in the shopping process. Not only at the end.

When I create an account, I have already filled in all the required fields, so then there is no question of a partially filled form.
It is much more frustrating if you have already filled in all your details when registering and they have disappeared after logging in (after selecting the country field).

There are login fields in the OPC, so then I also expect them to work and not have to make my customers log in at an earlier stage.

For me this is exactly how it should work.

Either you purchase as "guest" or as "logged in". You have "Login tab" open as default so you "hide the guest checkout".

If I have a new account (no purchases) and I have not setup any shopper fields because of this then my account does not have address or country selected in my account. So what happens here is that your start the purchase as "Guest" then when login it takes your shopper fields. If there are none then there will be none.

I really do not see how this can work in any other way - its exactly as designed.

Are we still talking about the same problem? I don't understand your answer.
The problem is still that if a country is chosen first and then logged in, all customer data disappears. This is not how it should work.

And when registering via Virtuemart, a customer has to fill in all mandatory fields, otherwise he cannot register. So this

If I have a new account (no purchases) and I have not setup any shopper fields because of this

I don't understand at all.

And of course, you only create an account when you make a purchase, so a new account without purchases is basically impossible.

Ok, I have done some tests. I think I understand what you are saying now.

If a user (with previous shopper fields) selects country before login in checkout it will not load VM Shopper fields to checkout form.

If a user (with previous shopper fields) does not select a country then login it will load all previous shopper fields correct.

Does this sound like I am understanding your issue?
