JP YOOtheme User Tools is a great extension; I love the button-type version.
I found some sites that use a similar solution but with a twist. For Joomla, there was a module called 'BT Login' that worked like this: When I click the button, I get the login form, but there is a 'registration' button, and if I click it, it switches the modal/dropdown content to the registration form without redirecting.
It would be very smooth if User Tools could do it.
